The inaugural supervisory meeting was convened to establish the primary objectives and technical scope of the final year dissertation. The initial project proposal focused on assistive technology for geriatric care; however, the discussion necessitated a critical re-evaluation of existing market solutions. The supervisor highlighted the ethical and practical limitations of contemporary systems—specifically, the severe privacy infringements associated with optical camera surveillance and the high failure rates of wearable telemetry due to patient non-compliance or cognitive decline. This problem space was formally defined as the "Dignity Gap" in modern elderly care.

To address these fundamental flaws, a paradigm shift toward entirely passive, device-free monitoring was proposed. The theoretical foundation of utilizing Radio Frequency (RF) signals was examined. It was concluded that relying on traditional Received Signal Strength Indicators (RSSI) would yield insufficient granularity for life-critical applications. Consequently, the extraction of fine-grained Wi-Fi Channel State Information (CSI) was formally adopted as the primary kinetic sensing method. Furthermore, to mitigate the "unconscious state" limitation—wherein a fallen individual remains static—a bimodal sensor-fusion architecture was proposed. The supervisor approved the integration of an HLK-LD2410C millimetre-wave (mmWave) Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar to serve as a secondary biological verification layer. The meeting concluded with the formal approval of the hardware procurement list, establishing the Raspberry Pi 5 as the central computational hub and two ESP32 microcontrollers as the RF transceiver network.
